I didn't expect much from Tacologist at first, based on the reviews I was reading on Yelp. But after having visited with my friend, I surprisingly liked the food a lot!
Upon arriving to the restaurant, I was a little frustrated that my friend and I had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to seat us, despite there being tons of empty seating. The food also took a while to get to our table. However, when my garlic shrimp tacos arrived, I was really impressed by how tasty the food was! The shrimp was grilled perfectly - not too overcooked. The chipotle ranch that I asked for on the side complemented the flavors of the dish well. The portion size of my entire meal was also just right - not too little where I was still hungry, but also not too much where I was feeling uncomfortably full. Unfortunately, along with the long wait times, I didn't like how overpriced the menu was. (For lettuce-wrapped shrimp tacos, I paid around $15.) Nevertheless, I think Tacologist is a decent restaurant that's conveniently located next to Case Western's campus. -

Great atmosphere for a casual dinner out. Good as a lunch spot or a drink spot before the Orchestra. Staple Mexican style favorites that don't disappoint. Definitely a great (and needed) addition to the neighborhood.
A note on the negative reviews: they opened in May. I think its very unfair to give a negative review that lasts forever online within the first 4-6 weeks of opening. They're still learning their way! You also can't coach staff until they've had a chance to actually do the job. Second, about the price: it's University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. You're going to spend $20, its the second most expensive neighborhood to live in the entire city. If you aren't willing to spend for a full sit-down dining experience, then stay at a fast casual/fast food joint. -

What?? Was?? This?? I have many questions, comments, concerns. When I graduated from Case years ago this place, the whole complex, did not exist so I was excited to try it out. The food was tolerable; edible, I suppose. We sat outside and the music was blasting in our ears the whole time. I mean, blasting. My ears are still ringing and I'm generally not so much of a lame that these things bother me.
Oh, I liked the guacamole sort of. That's my one positive. Also, If all this seems erratic that's because my visit to this place was just the same. The service was SO bad. Our server made the strangest faces when we ordered our chosen dishes, to the point where I actually said "oh that was awkward, is that the wrong thing to order?" And she ignored me. Okay then. Then she never brought us our check. Swear we could have walked out without paying, nobody would have ever known. We walked from the patio inside to 4 or 5 employees standing there on their phones looking miserably bored, asked for our check, then booked it out of there. I really don't see a reason to ever come back. Literally go anywhere else. That's my honest review. -

Tacologist is a fun new restaurant located in the old bowling alley location. The place is almost totally unrecognizable with an expansive bar area, lots of high top seating, and a comfortable patio. I love the chemical symbols on the way and the periodic table of tequila. It's a great concept for a location located near CWRU's research buildings, Seidman Cancer Center, and UH.
We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed a beautiful Cleveland summer day on the patio. The complimentary chips and salsa were good and I appreciated having my own salsa cup for dipping. It makes jostling to get to the salsa 1000 times easier! I also tried a house margarita, which was good, although nothing exceptional. Their menu is pretty typical of lots of Americanized Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Camarones, shrimp tacos, which came two to an order and included a side of cilantro lime rice. The shrimp were fried in a cornmeal type batter, which wasn't my favorite, but the shrimp were fresh and large. Overall, the meal was good. It's the ambiance of this place that makes it worth visiting if you're in the area. A great spot to meet friends/coworkers. -

Wonderful service and lots of good deals. Come here frequently with a big group and they are always very accommodating. Couldn't be happier with tacologist as new addition to uptown!
